In pictures: What AMAALA’s Yacht Club will look like

Using advanced Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology, Dewan Architects has revealed its work on the new Saudi landmark

One of Saudi Arabia’s flagship gigaprojects, AMAALA on the Red Sea, has unveiled the design of its yacht club.

Dewan Architects + Engineers are behind the design of the project, located on the northwestern coast of Saudi Arabia, from the conceptual design stage through to the issuance of construction documents.

The use of advanced Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology has streamlined the design process and fostered collaboration among consultants and stakeholders.

The Yacht Club, with interiors by ROAM, features a unique, organic geometric shape that posed significant design challenges. These were navigated with the help of BIM technology, reinforcing Dewan’s commitment to innovation and contemporary design solutions. The project is set to be completed in 2025.

Mohammed Ibrahim, Senior Design Manager at Dewan, attributed the project’s success to the use of modern architectural design and construction systems, saying, “By linking all building information into a unified environment (BIM Collaborate Pro), the team has been able to achieve rapid collaboration and coordination among project stakeholders.”

During the design stages, Dewan’s team used Revit to model the project’s facade and interior design, encompassing lighting and FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment). BIM Collaborate Pro was also employed to create comprehensive documentation for the project’s tender process.

The use of BIM Collaborate Pro, Revit, and Navisworks during the design process resulted in substantial time savings for the Dewan team. The firm reported an overall time saving of 43% during collaboration, 17% during design, and 28% during change management, with a 40% time saving in design collaboration.

The first phase of AMAALA, the Triple Bay masterplan, is set to open in 2025 with over 1,200 hotel keys and 1,200 luxury residential units.
