Six Senses Zighy Bay has appointed a new head sommelier. The new hire brings over a decade of hospitality experience to his new role.
Italian Luca Maida brings a wealth of expertise in business planning, consultation & training, distribution management, and event management.
Prior to his tenure in Oman, his professional journey took him from his hometown, Rome, Italy, to major international cities, including Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Maida said: “I’m extremely grateful for this incredible opportunity and honoured to be part of such a talented and dedicated team.

Durign his career, he has assisted leading restaurateurs and hoteliers, such as Culina at COMO Dempsey and Ferrari Food+Wine, focusing on staff training and the development of wine lists.
Maida is a certified sommelier holding a diploma from the Italian Sommelier Association, ‘AIS’ (Associazione Italiana Sommelier) and WSET Level 3 from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. Currently, he is on the path to completing his WSET Diploma.
Culinary activities and wine programme
In his new role, Maida spearheads the development of its extensive and diverse wine programme across the resorts’ multiple dining outlets, as well as the organisation and maintenance of the on-site wine cellar. His role extends to implementing regular training sessions for the resort’s hosts, enhancing their knowledge, and ensuring top-notch wine service. Maida also conducts seminars, tasting workshops, and events for guests.
The resort’s guests can partake in a variety of culinary activities guided by the expert. Whether it’s an intimate dinner in the resort’s wine cellar comprising more than 200 coveted labels from all over the world, or an interactive and aromatic journey with wine pairings, it will be a memorable feast for the senses, says the resort.
