The new senior VP brings in three decades of luxury hospitality experience.

An illustrious career journey

Luxury Hospitality veteran Nils-Arne Schroeder has been appointed as Fairmont’s new senior vice president, operations, Middle East & Asia. Schroeder joins Fairmont Hotels & Resorts with a wealth of experience in luxury hospitality.

“We are delighted to introduce Nils as our new senior vice president of operations for Fairmont’s Middle East and Asia regions,” CEO Mark Willis said. “His wealth of experience in luxury hospitality and demonstrated leadership are significant assets to our team, committed to elevating the overall guest experiences at our properties. With Nils on board, we are forging ahead to solidify our position as the foremost destination for discerning travellers around the globe.”

His career, which spans over three decades, has seen him take on complex leadership roles in commercial, hotel operations and luxury brand management across five countries in three continents including the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. Notably, Schroeder’s extensive experience in Asia Pacific, where he was based for over 20 years, has built his business acumen for the region, placing him in good stead to harness its diversity for the growth of the Fairmont brand.

Most recently, Schroeder held the role of vice president for luxury brands at Hilton, Asia Pacific where he was responsible for spearheading brand initiatives for the company’s three luxury brands in the region: Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts; Conrad Hotels & Resorts; and LXR Hotels & Resorts. During that time, he oversaw the openings of several landmark luxury hotels including the first LXR hotel in the region in Kyoto, Japan; and first Conrad hotel in Shanghai, China. For almost two years, Schroeder also concurrently held the position of global brand head for Conrad Hotels & Resorts, overseeing the then global portfolio of 40 trading Conrad hotels and 20 hotels in the pipeline, successfully redefining and elevating the brand’s positioning and leading its strategic growth on a global scale.

The new role

In his new role with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Schroeder is fully responsible for the operational performance of 18 hotels across Asia Pacific and the Middle East. He will also oversee more than 10 openings in the region which will see the regional portfolio expand by over 50 percent. Over the coming years, guests and customers can look forward to experiencing Fairmont’s brand of luxury hospitality in new city and resort destinations including Japan, Thailand and Vietnam with the openings of Fairmont Tokyo, Fairmont Bangkok and Fairmont Hanoi, the hotel adds. In addition, Schroeder will lead the expansion of the Fairmont portfolio across gateway cities with the debut of hotels such as Fairmont Dubai Skyline, Fairmont Shimla Fagu, Fairmont Udaipur, Fairmont Mumbai Sahar and Fairmont Agra.
