Five Minutes With: Essa Al Ansari, W Insider, W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island
Hotelier Middle East speaks to the first ever Emirati Insider hired by Marriott
We catch up with Essa Al Ansari ahead of his pioneering new role at W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island
How long have you worked in hospitality?
I come from a hospitality background, not only through my family’s business, but also my education. I studied at Glion Institute of
Higher Education in Switzerland, and I hold a BBA in hospitality. After completing my time at Glion, I returned to the UAE and was fortunate enough to work across both local and international hospitality companies for five years before joining our family business, Al Ansari Hospitality. I recently joined the Marriott family as the W Insider at the soon to be W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island, a very exciting and guest focused role.
What will you bring to this role?
As the W Insider, I am the first point of communication with every guest that walks through the door of the W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island. It is important that I understand our guests’ wants and anticipate their needs to ensure an unforgettable experience and make the impossible possible throughout their stay at W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island. Being an Emirati, I want to guarantee that I give our guests access to what’s new/next in Abu Dhabi and beyond the emirate, as well as connecting them culturally to the UAE. I plan on using my experience as a fitness motivational speaker in my new position as the W Insider. I hope to continue inspiring people through my own weight loss journey, by having a strong focus on the FUEL aspect of the W brand. FUEL is W’s unique spin on eating well, exercising, looking good and feeling good and I will definitely be encouraging the Abu Dhabi community to join in our FUEL focused programming.
Do you see yourself as a role model for other Emiratis?
Being an Emirati with a long standing work history in the hospitality industry, I always wanted to change and help influence the way people think about the industry within this region. The number of hotels opening in the region yearly is creates a fierce competition within the industry and expectations of success is always high. I am the first ever Emirati Insider hired by Marriott and I can say with confidence that I want to show everyone how I can succeed in this role while loving what I do at the same time within the service and hospitality industry.
