Concierges across Dubai have been brushing up on their city knowledge and registering in droves for the Concierge Mastermind of the Year, in association with City Sightseeing Dubai and Hotelier Middle East.

The competition, launched earlier in the summer, has seen huge interest from the industry with more than 60 concierges throughout Dubai registered to enter.

The competition will bring together Dubai’s concierges in the ultimate battle of wits and will be held at the QE2 on Wednesday, September 25.

The famous ship-turned-hotel, moored in Sheikh Rashid Port since 2008, will provide a stunning backdrop for the inaugural event where competitors will go through a number of rounds to test their knowledge of Dubai, the routes of City Sightseeing Dubai, as well as their wisdom on the art of being a concierge.

“We are delighted that the iconic QE2 can be part of such a prestigious and important event for our concierge colleagues in Dubai. We want to support this initiative and at the same time, we are getting the opportunity to introduce our rich history and storied past as one of Dubai’s greatest attractions.” said the QE2’s general manager, Russell Hanson.

The Concierge Mastermind of the Year is endorsed by the UAE chapter of Les Clefs d’Or — the definitive professional association for concierges. “When I first heard about this competition, I knew we had to be part of it immediately. This competition will bring a lot of exposure to concierges,” said Aby Sam, national president of Les Clefs d’Or UAE and chief concierge at JW Marriott Marquis.

“The highlight on concierges will also make brands focus more on the role. The end result of the competition will mean that hotels have the best concierge and at the end of it all, a guest will have a wholesome experience,” he added.

As well as the illustrious title of the “concierge mastermind of the year”, the winner will receive a cash prize on the night along with two runners up, courtesy of City Sightseeing Dubai — the largest open top bus operator in the UAE. “We wanted to create this event to bring all the best protagonists of the city that are involved in showing the best, the quirky and the unknown that is to be discovered about Dubai,” said City Sightseeing Dubai’s general manager, Cedric Scherer.

“The winners will have significant recognition and offer an opportunity to bask among their peers, as well as being able to celebrate their profession,” continued Scherer.

City Sightseeing Dubai is also offering free tours for all of the concierges that have registered for the Concierge Mastermind of the Year, to be used in the run-up to the event.

As well as experiencing the amazing sights that Dubai has to offer, from a unique perspective, concierges would be wise to focus and take notes on their tour as some of the questions they will face on the night will be about the routes and the various stops.

The competition will start at 7pm on Wednesday, September 25, and will see registered concierges take part in a number of quiz rounds to test their knowledge to prove that they are the concierges who can answer the most challenging of guest requests, can recite the most obscure of Dubai trivia, and have the best insights on the routes of City Sightseeing Dubai.
