Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts launches fifth Kilo of Kindness Campaign

In celebration of the campaign's fifth year, Mövenpick calls on guests to donate at least one kilo of food, clothing and educational supplies

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has launched its 2019 ‘Kilo of Kindness’ global charity campaign, marking the initiative's fifth year, while calling on guests to donate at least one kilo of food, clothing and educational supplies to disadvantaged communities around the world, with a focus on underprivileged young people.

In honour of the United Nations International Day of Charity on September 5, this year more than 50 Mövenpick hotels across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East are supporting the campaign, which runs from September 1-15, 2019. Guests and visitors are invited to drop off supplies at any participating hotel lobby, which will then be distributed locally by the charities each hotel has partnered with. While each guest is encouraged to donate a ‘Kilo of Kindness’, all contributions are welcome and gratefully received.

High-priority items include books, notebooks and stationery such as pens, pencils, rulers and erasers; canned foods such as tuna, soup, fruit, vegetables and concentrated milk; dry foods like rice, beans, oats, pasta, cereals, flour, powdered milk, baby formula, tea and coffee; and clothing for adults and children.

Last year, 12,700 kilogrammes of supplies were donated via the participating hotels – a figure Mövenpick hopes to surpass with its 2019 campaign. 

The participating hotels in the Middle East and Africa span a number of countries.

In Jordan, the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Dead Sea, Mövenpick Resort Petra, Mövenpick Resort & Residences Aqaba and Mövenpick Resort & Spa Tala Bay Aqaba, Mövenpick Hotel Amman, Mövenpick Nabatean Castle Hotel are collecting donations for The Hashemite Charity Organization, which supports people suffering from the consequences of conflict, natural disasters and poverty.

Meanwhile, the Mövenpick Hotel & Resort Al Bida'a Kuwait is partnering with Safa Charitable Society Humanitarian to collect clothes, toys, books and shoes for the underpriviledged children. The Mövenpick Hotel Kuwait is supporting three charities: Lajnat Al Tareef bil Islam, Jam'iyat Al Aoun Al Mobashar, Jam'iyat Al Najat Al Khayriya to collect school supplies, non-perishable food, clothing.

In Saudi Arabia, Anwar Al Madinah Mövenpick Hotel is supporting Takaful charity, an establishment to support financially disadvantaged students, while Mövenpick Hotel and Resort Yanbu will collect non-perishable food items, school supplies and clothes for Ber social services charity.

African countries have also jumped into the Kilo of Kindness campaign with dedication. A number of hotels in Egypt are involved: Mövenpick Resort Sharm El Sheikh will assist with South Sinai schools for school supplies; Mövenpick Resort & Spa El Gouna is supporting El Salam School for Girls in Hurghada; Movenpick Resort El Sokhna and Mövenpick Resort Aswan are supporting Resala charity Organization and collecting non-perishable food items, school supplies and clothes; Mövenpick Resort Soma Bay has partnered with Nedaa El Khier Association in Safaga for school supplies; and, Mövenpick Resort El Quseir has partnered with El Quseir Red Crescent  and is collecting clothes and food supplies.

In Tunisia, Mövenpick Resort & Marine Spa Sousse, Mövenpick Hotel Sfax, Mövenpick Hotel du Lac Tunis, and Mövenpick Hotel Gammarth Tunis are collecting school supplies and/or clothes with SOS Children's Village association, which supports vulnerable young people and children in Tunisia by providing day care and education.

Ghana's Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra is working with Department of Social Welfare collecting non-perishable food items, clothes and educational supplies, while Morocco's Mövenpick Hotel Casablanca is working with El Quseir Red Crescent collecting clothes for the underprivileged..

Finally, Kenya's Mövenpick Hotel & Residences Nairobi is working with Angels of Hope, a community-based organisation in Kenya’s Kibera slums to support poor orphans and vulnerable children living with HIV/AIDS. Angels of Hope aims to achieve community development as well as eliminate hunger, homelessness and illiteracy.
