Millennium Resort Mussanah hosts International Sailing Championship

Held in association with Oman Sail, the event attracted 146 sailors from 21 countries

Millennium Resort Mussanah, developed by Omran, the tourism-related investment‚ development and management company in Oman, bid goodbye to the participants of the International Sailing Championship.

The regatta was held from 1 October to 6 October, 2019.

The event was organised by Oman Sail, a non-profit organisation aiming to make sailing accessible to the Omani public. The championship attracted 146 young sailors from 21 nations at the opening ceremony of 2019 Asian and Oceanian Championship, held at Millennium Resort Mussanah.

The sport was aimed at establishing Oman as a regular destination on the global sailing circuit and to provide long-term learning opportunities for the youth of Oman.

During the competition, international sailors took part in the championship with Millennium Resort Mussanah’s Marina being the starting point for all the races.

On hosting the champions at the resort, the property’s GM, Dermot Birchall said: “We were extremely proud to be a part of this prestigious event that gave us an opportunity to host young sailors along with their coaches and supporters. We are driven to offer the best service to our guests and we have left no stone unturned to serve the champions with utmost gratitude. The Sultanate of Oman has made a mark on the globe with its breathtaking views and exhilarating water sports for professionals and amateur athletes. Surrounded by the Gulf of Oman, Arabian Gulf, and Oman Sea; it makes Oman the perfect destination to host such events.”

The regional Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship included contestants from Australia, Bahrain, China, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Iraq, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the UAE, competing against an Oman team.
