Emaar Hospitality Group has announced its top 10 picks for wedding trends to expect in 2020.

The group explains it has more than 40 venues to suit weddings across 14 hotels, golf and polo clubs in the UAE. Looking at the patterns in what its clients go for, it has complied the 2020 trends.

Creative food stations

Emaar predicts a rise in the popularity of live cooking stations and food displays. This trend is explained as couples are keen to share their home-country dishes with friends and family, as well as creating memorable moments for photographs.

Environmentally-friendly weddings

With the rise of environmentalism and sustainability, it is expected there will be a rise in 2020 of sustainably-sourced food, recycled materials and re-used materials in the wedding décor.

Statement wedding cakes

2020 will see wedding cakes become even more of a centrepiece at receptions. Cakes inspired by the bride’s wedding grown, according to Emaar, will be more common. Hand-painted, ink-stained, or mosaic-style cakes is also something wedding-providers and facilitators should bear in mind.

The great outdoors

Emaar highlights the warm weather of Dubai, particularly in Dubai, as creating a rise in the number of outdoor wedding receptions held.

Perfect projections

With the rise of technology, Emaar sees video mapping and digital technology to help in wedding planning. Projections of flower displays and artificial backdrops during weddings could be seen a lot more in 2020 as the technology improves.

Auspicious dates

It is expected that there will be huge demand for weddings on 02.02.2020, as well as 20.02.20, 01.01.20, 01.10.20 and 20.10.20.

All that glitters

Emaar assures that new colours will emerge for weddings next year, namely blush, nudes, rose, whites, ivory and creams. Along with the rise of metallic styles such as golds and silvers.

The Instagram moment

Emaar cites what it calls ‘the Instagram vision’ as a driving force for wedding planning in 2020. Couples will plan a wedding according to what it looks like on Instagram.

Destination weddings

Couples living in the UAE do no need to fly to a far good weather or beachside locations. 2020 will see more people choose a wedding staycation says Emaar.

Unique experiences

There will be a shift towards more bespoke wedding planning says Emaar.

Emaar Hospitality Group, corporate director strategic projects & partnerships, Alma Au Yeung, said: “Planning the perfect wedding day is an exciting adventure for newly-engaged couples. Some have a clear vision of exactly what they desire; for others, the day is a blank canvas ready to be filled. There are numerous blogs and magazines to read and a wish-list of venues to work through. Often though, the sheer wealth of information and choice can be overwhelming. Our team understands this and works with couples to ensure their day is everything they wished for and more,”
