Dubai set for ‘dry night’ for Hijri New Year

No alcohol to be sold within the emirate from 6.30pm on August 19

A circular from Dubai Police has confirmed that there will be a 25-hour dry spell in the emirate for Hijri New Year with no alcohol to be sold at restaurants or bars.

It follows on from a Dubai Municipality memo that stated that there should be no entertainment activities, parties, or live music in Dubai from 6.30pm on Wednesday August 19, until 7.30pm on August 20.

The alcohol ban will follow the same timeline, with restaurants and bars only able to soft drinks to customers on their premises.

A pubic holiday will be observed for the new year on Sunday August 23
