Oman extends Eid al-Adha holiday period

The holiday will last a week

Eid al-adha

The Eid al-Adha holidays have been extended in Oman, authorities have revealed.

The decision was based on the directives of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, with the holiday now lasting from Thursday July 30 to Thursday August 6. The holiday originally planned to last until Monday August 3.

Work will resume on August 9 and applies to both public and private sectors.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Oman is currently in a lockdown that will last until August 8. Authorities have banned the movement of people, as well as gatherings and group celebrations during the Eid period.

Other public holidays in the Sultanate in 2020 include Islamic New Year, which will be celebrated with a public holiday on Sunday August 23, giving many a three-day weekend.

Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Birthday will be celebrated with a public holiday on Thursday October 29, while Oman National Day is marked on November 18, which in 2020 falls on a Wednesday.
