Ranjit Phillipose is juggling roles as the general manager of Taj Dubai and as the area development head for the operator in the region. Phillipose began his career with Taj 24 years back.
Prior to assuming the role as general manager at Taj Dubai, Phillipose was the area director of Taj Goa while also managing Taj Exotica as GM. For the past eight months, in his current role, he has been managing the 296-key sole Taj property in the Middle East and North Africa and the development of the two new properties in Dubai, on the Palm Jumeirah and in Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT).
He says: “The last eight months have been very hectic, yet satisfying. There has been an emphasis on positioning Taj Dubai as a brand that is visible and reputable. These efforts have so far borne fruit, improving market penetration and lifting employee morale. The hotel is almost AED 5m (US $1.4m) above budget in H1.
“Furthermore,” he adds, “employee satisfaction has improved from 34% last year to 71% this year. Our roadshow in Jeddah has helped Taj Dubai to establish a stronger presence within Saudi Arabia.”
Phillipose explains that his primary vision is to increase the “footprint of the brand in the Middle East and incorporate the Tajness concept into the competitive market”.
Taj Exotica Resort and Spa Palm Jumeirah is scheduled to open in 2019, while Vivanta by Taj in JLT is aiming for a Q4 2018 opening. “We plan to carry [the brand] forward by highlighting the exceptional services provided in the hotel by delivering new experiences that will set a benchmark within the Dubai hospitality landscape,” Phillipose says.
