Suparat Chirathivat has been busy with the signing of a joint venture agreement with Nakheel to develop a 550-key resort on Deira Islands in Dubai. He says: “Centara Deira Islands Beach Resort Dubai will be designed to primarily attract families, with waterpark facilities to be a major attraction. [It] is expected to see completion by 2020.”
“Based on current pipeline, by 2020 Centara Hotels & Resorts will have at least 1,800 keys in Middle East,” he adds.
In the past year, the Thai operator has signed the Centara Deira Islands Beach Resort Dubai and opened the Centara Muscat Hotel. Centara also has plans to expand into new markets as diverse as China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, the Maldives, Sri Lanka, India, Mauritius, Ethiopia, Turkey, and Cuba.
Holding the position of VP of business development, Chirathivat says he is seeking to make Centara “one of largest international hotel groups of Thai origin”.
He adds: “During my 10 years with Centara, I have planned the operator’s domestic and international development strategies, which enabled it to gain recognition as an international hotel operator in the hospitality world. Our portfolio has increased from 11 to 66 properties in 11 countries, 72% of which are managed and 28% of which are owned.”
