As managing director for the region, Baran Turkel oversees 17 Best Western properties in Turkey, the Middle East and Central Asia.
The operator currently has 1,948 keys in the region, and plans to open a further five hotels, comprising 546 rooms altogether.
New properties signed include The Arch Hotel, BW Signature Collection by Best Western in Juffair, Bahrain, and the Best Western Plus Sidi Yahia in Algiers.
In 2017, Best Western Hotels debuted its new brand Vib in Antalya, Turkey. Vib is defined by Best Western as a, “new hip, chic, boutique concept and lifestyle brand that re-imagines the Best Western hotel experience for today’s traveller who is seeking innovation, technology integration and style with an authentic, local flavour.”
While openings have slowed in the last 12 months, the group still added five new hotels to its portfolio over the last two years, including Best Western Plus Pearl Creek, Dubai; Best Western Premier Al Ahsa Grand, Saudi Arabia; Best Western Plus Buraidah, Saudi Arabia; Best Western Plus Fursan, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; and Best Western Plus Hotel Setif, Algeria.
The group also launched its Arabic website earlier this year to cater to the regional market. Turkel tells Hotelier Middle East: “Best Western Hotels & Resorts is continuously looking for new ways to enhance the customer journey and expand its global reach. Therefore, making its website available in Arabic is a natural next step for the company.”
