As regional general manager, Vincent Miccolis has spearheaded The Ascott Limited’s entry into new markets such as Turkey, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
With 11 operational properties in the Middle East, the group’s most recent opening was the launch of the first Citadines property in Dubai in Q2 of 2018 through a franchise agreement.
A second Citadines property, this time in Istanbul, Turkey, is also under development and is due to open in Q4 of 2019.
In total, The Ascott Limited has 12 properties in the pipeline, which will add 1678 unit to its existing portfolio of 1,696 keys.
Miccolis is now also turning the group’s attention to Africa, having signed Ascott Limited’s first management agreement in Ghana with one property (yet unbranded) due to open at the end of 2018, and the group’s first Ascott Residence due to open in mid-2019.
“We are still working towards our target of 5000 units across the Middle East, Africa & Turkey by 2020,” Miccolis tells Hotelier Middle East.
The Ascott Limited is also continuing to push for better deployment of technology. The company is trying out artificial intelligence with a view to create more efficient operations and better customer experiences, it announced earlier this year at the Arabian Travel Market. Miccolis also revealed to Hotelier at the event that the company was conducting tests in China using service robots, with a view to roll out the technology in the Middle East if the tests prove successful.
