A newcomer to the list, Tim Cordon was appointed the new area senior vice president in November 2017, the youngest area senior vice president in the company’s history.
The last year has seen the erstwhile Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group rebrand itself to Radisson Hotel Group and go through a complete reorganisation.
Impressively enough this hasn’t stopped Radisson’s expansion plans in the region and the hotel group has jumped from 39 operating hotels in July 2017 to 50 in July 2018.
Keeping the momentum going, Radisson plans on ending the year with 15 openings across Middle East and Africa. Saudi Arabia is another big focus for the group as they currently have 40 hotels and +10,000 rooms in operation or under development in Saudi Arabia. In December 2017 Radisson Blu opened its first resort in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia and earlier this year, opened its fifth Radisson Blu hotel in Jeddah.
On 2017, Cordon says: “The last year has definitely been the year of the openings, which has seen our impressive development pipeline came to fruition.
Currently, the eleventh largest hotel group in the world, Radisson Hotel Group is made up of eight hotel brands with more than 1,400 hotels in operation and under development, Cordon’s vision for the company is for it to break into the top three.
On his vision for Radisson, Cordon says: “Our organisation’s vision is to be one of the top three hotel companies in the world, I think we reflect that with what we are doing in our area, modernising systems, heavily investing in technology and using that to get ever closer to our owners, guests and employees. Not to mention opening 30 hotels in 18 months.”
Staff development is important to both the company and Cordon. On women empowerment Cordon adds: “I’m pleased at our efforts for women in leadership in Saudi Arabia and we have now moved to 150 female employees in Saudi Arabia from just six in 2014.”
He has also added two more regional directors and created more “districts” to better support operational hotels across the area. The new appointments came from internal promotions from within the company.
In conjunction with the alignment around the Radisson brand equity, the Radisson Hotel Group has restructured its brand architecture and has renamed its Quorvus Collection to Radisson Collection.
However, Radisson is set to get a new owner after HNA agreed to sell the company to Jin Jiang International Holding for an estimated US $2 billion in August 2018. Radisson Hotel Group was acquired by HNA in 2016, when it was called Carlson Hotels.
