With 12 hotels open and 40 in the pipeline, Millennium & Copthorne Middle East is one of the fastest growing hotel groups in the region thanks to the leadership of Ali Hamad Lakhraim Alzaabi, who established the business 10 years ago.
Born and raised in Abu Dhabi, Alzaabi set up the Middle East arm of Millennium & Copthorne following a position as deputy director general of Abu Dhabi National Hotels.
Since then, he has worked tirelessly to establish the brand and secure contracts with owners across the Middle East, despite competition from larger international hotel companies.
Over the past year, the company has made significant in-roads into Saudi Arabia and Iraq, and Alzaabi has made no secret of the fact that he has “no doubt” that Millennium & Copthorne will become “the number one player in Saudi Arabia”.
He has also recently extended the brand portfolio, with the addition of the luxury Biltmore brand and the first Biltmore property signed for Abu Dhabi, due to open in 2013.
Alzaabi has an extensive involvement in the MENA hospitality sector, with a number of investment companies operating across a spectrum of market segments. In total, his investment companies hold assets in the hotel sector worth more than US $3 billion.
He is the chairman and founder of Lakhraim Business Group (LBG), a holding company in the UAE with numerous ventures and investment across a spectrum of market segments in the MENA region, and also vice-chairman and founder of two leading hotel investment and ownership companies based in the UAE — Pearl Azure Hotels and Emirates Hotel Company.
Alzaabi is also a majority shareholder of National Corporation for Hotels and Tourism, an entity listed on the Abu Dhabi stock exchange.
