Having spent his 20-year-plus hospitality career at Accor, Sami Nasser is well-placed to spearhead development of its luxury Sofitel brand through the Middle East region as well as Africa and the Indian Ocean.
Appointed to the position of vice president operations and general manager of the Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah, Nasser then transferred to Dubai in 2009 to open the Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach as general manager and assume the position of senior vice president for the division in the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Ocean.
He formerly worked as general manager for several Accor brands before moving in to the distribution division in Paris, where he handled the North American, Scandinavian and Russian sales offices as well as later becoming director of operations for Poland.
In his orbit, Nasser has overseen the opening of Sofitel properties in Dubai, Al Khobar and Bahrain in the past two years, with the Sofitel Abu Dhabi Capital Plaza due to open later this year, and two more properties scheduled for Dubai in 2012 and 2013.
Elsewhere, a new Sofitel in Essaouria will be joined by Agadir and Casablanca properties within six months, and Nasser has also supervised the opening of the first Sofitel So resort — in Mauritius — to be followed next year by two Sofitel Legends in Egypt — the Old Cataract in Aswan and the Winter Palace in Luxor, both of which have been extensively refurbished and upgraded.
