An industry veteran, Peter Fulton has worked in the hospitality sector for almost 40 years.
Fulton has long had ambitions of propelling the innovation and growth strategy for Hyatt in the region, driven further through his appointment in January 2008 as managing director of Hyatt International — South West Asia, and then appointment to group president for Hyatt International — Europe, Africa, Middle East and South West Asia in September 2012.
Fulton currently oversees 64 properties across his two regions, which includes eight in the GCC and four in the wider Middle East.
A key market for Hyatt within the GCC is Saudi Arabia — Hyatt has served the Saudi Arabian market for 23 years now. Furthermore, seven out of Hyatt’s eight pipeline hotels in the region are in Saudi Arabia, with Park Hyatt Jeddah as the group’s flagship hotel in the kingdom.
The 628-room Hyatt Regency Mecca and Hyatt Regency Riyadh are expected to open by the end of 2014.
Other GCC hotels in the pipeline include Park Hyatt Riyadh, Grand Hyatt Jeddah, Hyatt Regency Jeddah, Hyatt Place Mecca, Hyatt Mecca, and Park Hyatt Doha. Fulton is also driving Indian expansion, with five hotels signed this year.
