It’s been a big year for Radisson Hotel Group which achieved its vision of being one of the top three hotel companies in the world through its acquisition by Jin Jiang International, as set out by Tim Cordon to Hotelier Middle East last year.
It’s only his second year in the role but Cordon has wasted no time in opening flagship properties including Radisson Bu Hotel, Dubai Waterfront last year and is set to introduce Radisson Red to the region in November 2019.
Indeed, Cordon has led the group’s expansion in the Middle East with no fewer than 11 hotel openings across the region in 2018, and another 15 planned for 2019.
Cordon told Hotelier Middle East that “the last years have definitely been dedicated towards openings, which has seen our impressive development pipeline come to fruition”.
A first Radisson Resort to be opened globally is confirmed for Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE with an expected completion date of Q1 2020, while this year will also see the first Radisson hotel in Casablanca, Morocco opening.
The first half of 2019 has also seen positive financial results with strong like-for-like performance meaning revenue increased within the first quarter.
While the number of successful openings pleases Cordon, he shows real pride in the company’s regional Balanced Leadership programme, of which he is a champion.
One of Radisson’s latest CSR initiatives is a collaboration with Evolvin Women that enables organisations to offer skill development placements to unemployed women from rural areas.
Radisson has also led initiatives to support its female employees with enhanced maternity leave and continuous coaching and development.
Saudi Arabia has been a key focus for growth with more than 40 hotels and 10,000 rooms in operation or development, it is one of the fastest growing hotel companies in the Kingdom where it has exponentially grown its number of female employees and was the first hotel group to assign a Saudi female GM.
Cordon has worked his way up from the bottom His first official role in the industry was in the kitchen. He spoke about his hospitality journey saying: “Looking back today I think that is where my strong belief in leadership and development has come from. I started with pots and pans and today I am surrounded by an outstanding senior team, leading one of the largest areas in our company.”
