UAE orders immediate closure of Qatar Airways offices

Decision taken after Saudi Arabia and Bahrain earlier revoked the licences of Qatar Airways amid escalating row

The UAE on Wednesday has ordered the closure of all Qatar Airways offices in the country with immediate effect.

The decision was taken after Saudi Arabia and Bahrain earlier revoked the licences of Qatar Airways and ordered its offices to close within 48 hours.

In a brief statement, the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said: “We have taken the decision to close all offices of Qatar Airways with immediate effect.”

The statement did not mention on whether the license was also revoked. Arabian Business has approached GCAA for a comment.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt announced the suspension of all flights to and from Qatar as of Tuesday morning, after they severed all diplomatic ties with Qatar. Hours later, Qatar Airways also announced suspension of all its flights to Saudi, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt.
