How long have you been in hotel purchasing and with Rotana?
For 30 years. I started with Rotana in 1987.
What specific products are you on the lookout for?
We are always on the lookout for organic and locally grown produce. The market for such items is growing in the UAE so we are seeing more suppliers approach us, as well as current suppliers expanding their range of such products.
Biggest challenge in purchasing?
A range of products offered at similar prices makes it a challenge towards the selection process. Therefore, we continually explore new avenues and partners in order to make better purchase decisions, and at the same time, stay current with the needs and requests of our guests.
One of your most successful deals?
We recently opened a gastropub, JB’s, and it was an extensive process to select all the appropriate materials and products to match the concept and theme of the outlet. Due to effective contract management and established relationships we have with our suppliers, we managed to procure all required items without exceeding the budget, and were still able to offer quality and durability.
What does a supplier have to do to impress you?
Deliver on their promise. That’s the most important aspect I consider for building a solid relationship with any supplier.
