The newly-appointed exhibition manager of The Gulf Incentive, Business, Travel and Meetings Exhibition (GIBTM) – which will be held in Abu Dhabi for the fifth running next month – said there is still a general lack of understanding in the region about what the meetings industry actually is.
Lloyd Kenyon said the objectives for this year’s GIBTM will be to futher develop the education programme and to “increase awareness of the meetings industry in the Middle East.”
According to Kenyon, often people working within in the meetings industry in the region, are unaware that they are part of it.
“A major challenge is education as many people working on meetings and incentives in corporations, agencies and organisations don’t know that they belong to the industry,” he said.
“We want to reach out to all involved in the business to develop the meetings and incentive industry.”
GIBTM takes place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 28 -30 March. A number of new regional destinations are set to take part this year including Bahrain, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria.
