Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Ajman, Ramada by Wyndham Beach Hotel Ajman, and Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche marked World Diabetes Day (November 14) by hosting a roundtable and preparing healthy meals.

The hotels, along with Ajman University, came together to allow children and teens with Type 1 diabetes to share their experiences and advise each other on how to deal with their condition.

The event also pushed an awareness campaign on how to recognise warning signs of diabetes and help thwart off Type 2 diabetes.

Under the theme of ‘Diabetes: Project Your Family’, the hotels also had chefs prepare low-carb dishes and healthy desserts for the 11-17 aged participants. The activity was held at The Penthouse of Ramada by Wyndham Beach Hotel Ajman.

According to the International Diabetes Federation, 425 million people worldwide have diabetes and one in every two people with diabetes is undiagnosed.

Seventeen-year old Syeda Emaan Iftikhar, the roundtable’s moderator, shared: “It is important to have a support group and to able to impart our first-hand experience to others who are currently coping with this condition. We hope that through this discussion, we will be able to acquire more information and tips on managing diabetes, as well as educate others for them to better understand what we and our families are going through on a daily basis.”
