Construction on the 153-room Hotel Indigo scheduled to open in Dubailand in 2018 and which is expected to be fully operating on solar power, the first hotel to do so in the Middle East, is set to begin, Gulf News reported recently.
“We have the final architectural design and work will start within weeks,” Diamond Developers CEO Faris Saeed said. The hotel will be a cornerstone marking the second phase of the Dubai Sustainable City project.
Saeed said that once the hotel opens, all the water from the hotel will be utlilised for landscaping. The hotel, operating under IHG’s lifestyle boutique brand Indigo, will rely heavily on a farm-to-table philosophy, with Saeed stating that around 60 to 70% of the hotel’s fresh produce needs, such as herbs and vegetables, Â will be sourced from an adjoining farm. Where possible, construction materials from the creation of Phase 1 of Dubai Sustainable City will be re-purposed within the hotel.Â
” We have created a DNA for sustainable development, ” Saeed said. “These lessons are scalable and adaptable. We can help spread the know-how.”
