Wafi Group staff to take salary cut
The workforce will receive a 25% pay reduction
Staff at Dubai’s conglomerate company Wafi Group have taken a temporary salary reduction, starting at 25%. According to sister publication Arabian Business, more than 4,000 members of the workforce have been impacted by the salary adjustments, projected to last until the end of June.
Wafi Group director for admin, HR & local affairs Abdullah Ibrahim explained: “To further limit the spread of the virus, we have implemented reduced working weeks and staff have been encouraged to take accrued annual leave. A salary adjustment structure has been put in place for a percentage reduction on basic salaries, allowances remain untouched.”
The Group, which spreads across multiple industries, said retail and hospitality were the worst hit by the pandemic right now. Despite this, Ibrahim urged Wafi has no current plans to lay-off staff. He said: “Despite the impact the virus has had on the business, in particular hospitality and retail, there have been no redundancies and we feel that this implemented approach will protect the Group’s interests and employment during this challenging time and also prepare us for the future when business returns back to normal.”
Hotels within Wafi’s portfolio include Raffles Dubai, Sofitel Dubai Wafi, Arabian Park Hotel and Park Hotel Apartments.
