Report: UAE named prime destination for luxury family travellers
Dubai last year received 16.73 million overnight visitors
The United Arab Emirates has been named one of the world’s leading destinations of luxury family travellers.
According to a report from travel specialist Kuoni, the Arab country is the seventh most popular family destination in 2020, beating out both Spain and Italy.
Kuoni’s report stated that family bookings have increased by 10% this year compared to 2019, along with an additional 8% rise in bookings which include three generations of the family travelling together.
Topping the list for luxury family travel in 2020 was the Maldives, followed my Mauritius and Thailand coming second and third respectively. Other destinations included Greece, the USA, Mexico and Portugal. The UAE was the only Middle Eastern country to fall into the top 10.
Dubai and Abu Dhabi hold the lion’s share in terms of tourism numbers. In 2019, Dubai saw an all-time high of 16.73 million overnight visitors, while the UAE capital recorded 11.35 million.
For Dubai, its figure marked a 5.1% increase in tourism volumes compared to 2018. Dubai is often cited as the UAE’s tourism hub, with 11.5% of the emirates GDP last year coming from its tourism sector.
