Customers at Dubai restaurants will soon have the option of receiving free tap water at F&B outlets in the Emirate in 2020, according to regulations set in the Dubai Food Code 2020, to be released by the Dubai Municipality next year.

This move comes as the country aims to cut down on the use of single-use plastics.

It isn't a rule yet, but officials revealed that landlords will be responsible for the quality of their water tanks, sister publication Arabian Business revealed.

“Whenever you go to restaurants or hotels, you will now be seeing drinking water regulations. If you want to have a cup of water, you will see you can get it from the tap or from the bottle and you just have to select which one,” Amal Al Bedwawi, head of the Drinking Water Control Unit at Dubai Municipality, told local media.
