Saudi Arabia to roll out contractor classification system in August 2019
Updated classification system to cover contracting activities, including construction and maintenance, across five levels
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs (Momra) will roll out a five-level contractor classification system in August 2019, which will see companies divided between Level 1 – reserved for megaprojects – to Level 5 – comprising smaller projects, Hotelier Middle East's sister title Construction Week reported.
Saudi Arabia's state-held news agency, SPA, cited Momra official, Saudi Al-Thikri, saying that the system will cover services related to construction and maintenance.
Al-Thikri said the updated system would allow companies to e-link their records with relevant authorities and exchange information, allowing for the integration of contractor data in Saudi Arabia.
According to Al-Thirki, the updated classification system is consistent with Saudi Arabia's National Classification for the Economic Activities (ISIC4), and will raise construction standards in the kingdom.
