British Airways and Lufthansa have suspended all flights to Egypt, the airlines made an announcement.

Lufthansa suspended flights for just one day on Saturday, with service returning to normal on Sunday. While British Airways has put all flights to Cairo on hold for seven days following a security review.

However, UAE's Emirates and Etihad Airways will continue to fly the Cairo route.

An Emirates spokesperson told sister title Arabian Business, “Our flights to and from Cairo are currently operating as scheduled. We are closely assessing the situation and are in contact with relevant aviation authorities with regards to our flight operations to Egypt. As always, the safety and security of our passengers, crew and aircraft is our number one priority and will not be compromised.”

Etihad which shares a codeshare with Egypt Air, said: “Etihad Airways is monitoring the security situation in Cairo. The safety of our guests and staff is paramount, and we will make decisions based on an informed assessment of local conditions.”

According to Khaleej Times, Egypt's Ministry of Civil Aviation said that the decision to suspend flights was not issued by Britain's transport or foreign ministries.
