Saudi’s Ministry of Haj and Umrah will soon be launching smart cards for pilgrims.

The wearable cards that are being launched in a pilot programme will store the pilgrim’s personal information, health status and haj tour details, according to reports.

The smart cards will also be fitted with a location tracker that will be managed by a control room.

Currently, the ministry is planning to introduce 200,000 cards, which will have the same technology, without the tracker system.

In addition to the cards, the ministry will also be releasing a Smart Hajj ID app that will have the same features as the card.

Dr. Amr Al-Maddah chief planning and strategy officer at the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah told Arab News that the technology will help them collect data and will enable the ministry to simulate and predict crowd behaviour during haj.
