Spa Manager took a trip to the Biolite Skin Clinic at Dubai Healthcare City for a ‘Placenta Diamond Facial’ and left with baby skin

The venue

The Biolite Skin Clinic is located in Dubai Healthcare City where parking is ample. The clinic décor is Asian-inspired with dark woods, bamboo and green and orange cushions and furnishings. Customers are made welcome with refreshments — there is hot tea on tap located on the coffee table in the reception — and there is plenty of reading material.

The treatment

The therapist was very professional and friendly and explained every aspect of the Placenta Diamond Facial as well as what to expect when each product or piece of machinery was applied. The steps:
1. Cleansing
2. Exfoliation with steam
3. Serum application with oxygen
4. Application of placenta eye gel and cream
5. Texal masque applied
6. Low-level laser treatment (while masque still applied)
7. Massage with eye gel and placenta cream
8. Massage

The products

EMK placenta products sold exclusively at Biolite Skin Clinic. The products are made from placenta extract derived from the placentas from women giving birth at maternity units in Russia.

The experience

The Biolite Skin Clinic combines the professionalism of a private healthcare clinic with the relaxed environment of an up-scale day spa. The treatments are exclusive and results-driven, but what really makes this clinic a success is the attitude of the staff. They are courteous, friendly and communicative plus you feel safe in the knowledge that they are trained professionals.

The cost

This treatment will set you back AED 2000 (US $545) but a course of three is priced AED 4500 ($1225).

The verdict

It’s no wonder this facial is popular with A-list stars such as J Lo and Eva Longoria. I left Biolite with healthy glowing skin. Fine lines had disappeared and my skin was tighter and brighter. Of course, there are other facials that give similar results, but the difference with this treatment was that the results lasted for around five days. The secret, says clinic director Mona Mirza, is that the application of human placenta products is combined with a low-level laser.

“It’s good for hydrating problem skin, pigmentation, anti-ageing and acne,” she says. “It’s a beauty flash – great for a wedding or special occasion.”
