Emaar Hospitality Group’s The Address Hotels and Resorts brand has signed its first management contract yesterday for the Jnan Amar Polo Retreat, slated to open in Morocco in 2011.

The company already operates The Address Downtown Burj Dubai — owned by parent company Emaar — with a further two Emaar-owned flags set to debut in Dubai in 2009.

The polo retreat in Morocco is being developed by SIAMA (Morocco), a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia-based business conglomerate Azmi Abdelhadi (AAH) Group.

Emaar Hospitality Group chief executive Marc Dardenne said the company’s vision was to create an internationally recognised global hotel brand.

“This exclusive polo retreat will be a high-end tourism destination,” he said.

“Morocco is already a high-end destination in terms of leisure. [This development] is very forward thinking, the polo element will be a first in Africa — a niche market. It will bring in the whole lifestyle aspect of The Address brand.”

The hotel will include 60 rooms, 16 private villas, a golf driving range and polo field.

SIAMA general manager Ammar Abdelhadi said the project had five focus areas for tourism — cultural, business, meetings and incentives, health and wellbeing and sports and recreation.

“It was important for us to have a partner that has diverse strengths in managing all these aspects,” he said.

“The Address Hotels and Resorts has proven its competencies in all these aspects of hospitality, making it our ideal choice [of operator].”

Dardenne added that the company was pursuing an “aggressive” international expansion plan, with key markets including the United States and Asia.
