Wokyo Noodle Bar to host ramen festival
A Sapporo Ramen Festival will take place at the JLT- based eatery next month
Wokyo, the Tokyo-inspired noodle bar in JLT is set to host s Sapporo Ramen Festival.
From December 7 - 9, chefs at the eatery will be serving Sapporo miso ramen and Sapporo shoyu ramen, supervised by master ramen chef Ishida, who will be flying in from Japan to launch this new addition to the Wokyo menu.
Sapporo style ramen is different from the classic Japanese ramen as it is prepared in a wok. The Nishiyama ramen noodles are made from pure melted snow water and local farmed wheat. The broth is the heart of the ramen, whilst the toppings can comprise anything from fresh vegetables like shiitake mushrooms and Chinese cabbage to slices of meat and is usually topped with an egg.
“When Tokyo TV visited Dubai they were looking for the home of noodles in the city and Wokyo stood out both for its authentic look, feel and flavor. This feature piqued the interest of representatives from the Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) Maruyama-san and master ramen chef Ishida-san who visited us in Dubai and were instantly sold,” said Wokyo operations director Zak Alaalam.
Wokyo managing director and partner Nazli Khorshidi spoke about preparations leading up to the festival saying: “We trained at Nishiyama headquarters, Japan’s biggest ramen noodle manufacturer, whose history of ramen noodle making goes as far as 1947, learning to make the perfect bowl of ramen but also understanding the significance of this beautiful wholesome dish so deeply rooted in Japanese culture.”
Diners at Wokyo can look forward to a number of activities over the 3-day festival including Japanese Taiko drumming at opening ceremony, live acoustic music, origami folding, Japanese calligraphy demonstrations and free Japanese souvenirs for every Sapporo ramen guest courtesy of Ministry of Economy Hokkaido, Japan.
