A complete refresher on everything you need to know about celebrating the best and the brightest in the Middle East's mid-market hotel sector
The second edition of the Hotelier Express Awards, which recognises achievements by individuals and teams in the Middle East's mid-market hospitality sector, is set to take place on February 28, 2018; nominations are now open, so read on to find out how to celebrate your outstanding colleagues.
The Hotelier Express Awards is a recognition of the way the region’s top hoteliers in budget, economy, mid-scale, upper mid-scale and serviced apartment properties are excelling in disrupting the overall hospitality sector in the Middle East, by upgrading service standards and enhancing guest experiences, reengineering the way consumers and investors alike are regarding mid-market hotels, all the while maintaining operational efficiencies and protecting profitability. With more than 200 mid-market hospitality professionals expected to attend, the awards celebrate achievements in 14 categories.
WHO CAN I NOMINATE?
All budget, economy, mid-scale and upper mid-scale hotels (encompassing one-star, two-star, three-star and four-star hotels) as well as serviced apartment operators in the Middle East are eligible to nominate team members for the Hotelier Express Awards. Nominations must be made by a hotel representative on behalf of a member of staff or team at their hotel. It is highly recommended that nominations are approved by the hotel general manager’s office and/or the hotel PR/marketing office before submission.
HOW TO ENTER/SUBMIT AWARD NOMINATIONS?
Details of the Hotelier Express Awards categories, nomination and entry guidelines as well as the online submission form can be found on the 2018 awards microsite: www.hoteliermiddleeast.com/express-awards.
To submit an entry, click on “Submit Nominations”. Fill out all sections of the nomination form. Make sure to include as much detail and data as possible in your submission.
WHAT TIMEFRAME DOES THE AWARDS COVER?
Nominations should include accurate, up to date and relevant accomplishments of the nominee during the period from January to December 2017.
WHAT COUNTRIES ARE INCLUDED IN THE AWARDS?
Nominations should relate to achievements by hoteliers within the Middle East region. For the purpose of the Hotelier Express Awards, hoteliers from the following countries are eligible for nominations: Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.
- Unsung Hero of the Year
- Young Hotelier of the Year (under-30)
- Sales/marketing manager of the Year
- Finance/procurement manager of the Year
- Housekeeper of the Year
- F&B manager of the Year
- Chef of the Year
- GM of the Year (independent hotel)
- GM of the Year (chain/branded hotel)
- Mid-Market Hotel Launch of the Year
- Budget Hotel Team of the Year
Nominations will be accepted from properties with a one-star hotel rating and are positioned within the budget hotel category.
- Economy Hotel Team of the Year
Nominations will be accepted from properties with a two-star hotel rating and positioned within the economy hotel category.
- Mid-Market Hotel Team of the Year
Nominations will be accepted from properties that have either a three-star or a four-star hotel classification and are positioned within the mid-scale or upper mid-scale category.
CAN I ENTER MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY?
Hotels are allowed to nominate people or teams in as many categories as they wish. Each nomination of an individual or team must be made separately.
HOW CAN I IMPROVE MY CHANCES AT WINNING?
Start working on your nomination as early as possible. Be clear, factual and accurate with your entry. Accomplishments backed up by achievements of actual KPIs make for a strong entry; confidential data shared in nominations will be kept confidential. Please do not make attempts to embellish nominations and stuff it with fluffy superlatives. Read the nomination criteria for each category and focus on actual achievements.
DO I NEED TO BOOK/PURCHASE A TICKET TO ATTEND?
All attendees must book and pay for their tickets in order to attend the awards. It is highly recommended that bookings be made as early as possible to guarantee the table position.
WHY SHOULD I ATTEND?
The Hotelier Express Awards ceremony is a rare opportunity for mid-market hoteliers to gather in one place and celebrate the dedication, hard work and successes of their colleagues in the Middle East. Too often, hoteliers in the mid-market sector are overshadowed by peers in the luxury and upscale sector. The awards ceremony presents an evening for mid-scale hoteliers to shine.
