Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah, Oman to host triathlon on October 20

Two-time full Ironman champion Pedro Gomes has signed up for the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Triathlon

Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa is spearheading a triathlon which is taking place at the resort on Friday, October 20, 2017.

The triathlon is set to start at 6:30am along a hilly course over sprint distance. The aquatic portion of the race offers a 750-metre sea swim, while back on dry land, participants ride bicycles on roads over a distance of 20 kilometres through the Hajar Mountains. Finally, the race ends with a five kilometre run held within the resort’s surroundings.

Professional athlete and two-time full Ironman champion Pedro Gomes has signed up for the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Triathlon.

Speaking ahead of the event, Gomes said: “As an Ironman champion and being so used to race at the main stages around the World, I am excited for the triathlon at Shangri-La Muscat on 20 October. The resort’s stunning location sets the scene for a memorable triathlon experience."

Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa is offering prizes to the top three winners of the male, female and team categories, with nine prizes in total. In addition, participants can avail of breakfast at the resort for OMR 10 (US $26) after the event.

Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa general manager Juergen Doerr said in a statement: "We have hosted several sporting events at Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa this year and are pleased to maintain supporting the sporting community of Muscat. It is great to get people of all ages together as we continue to promote the importance of sports and encourage healthy lifestyle awareness through the numerous inspirational sporting events we host at the resort."

Registration for the triathlon is open until October 10, 2017.
