Doha Marriott takes Hotel Team of the Year mantle
The Doha property won three awards on the night, including Hotel Team, GM of the Year, and F&B Manager
The Hotelier Middle East Hotel Team of the Year category was taken by Doha Marriott Hotel, marking a hat-trick for the property on the night.
Sponsored by MMI, the award was presented to the team by general manager Mike Glen.
The judges decision was unanimous, and the hotel has met and exceeded the budget for the first time in seven years due to the hard work and dedication of each department within the hotel.
Speaking to Hotelier Middle East after the announcement, Katie Roberts, PR & marketing communications manager, Doha Marriott Hotel said: "We came here hoping we might go back with one, but to go away with the three we were shortlisted in is beyond anything we could have hoped for."
Roberts said: "We took an old hotel, we turned it upside down, we shook it around a bit, and then we said, 'here we are'."
She said all the key players in every department came together with one common goal. "We're an old hotel and we're looked upon as the underdog in Doha but we've always had this belief that we can make it work and we can turn it around, and we can get people engaged in our property again. It comes from a belief in what we're doing, and the staff we have involved. A lot of people said it won't work, it will never happen,"
GM of the Year 2015 John Hazard added that the hotel had achieved many things in the last year, not in the least many accolades through Marriott.
Roberts: "It's been transforming an old, tired property to something where people will travel halfway across a city to come to us."
Highly commended was Media One Hotel, and shortlisted nominees included InterContinental Jeddah, Kempinski Ajman, Marriott Marquis City Centre Doha, and Raffles Dubai.
