Update: GCC man arrested in One&Only death row
A police statement confirms that the man arrested was a Gulf national
A Gulf national who struck a prominent Indian real estate broker during an argument at a luxury Dubai hotel, causing the Asian man to fall and hit his head, has been arrested over the unintentional death, Dubai Police have confirmed.
As reported yesterday, Mahendran Yadav, managing director of Emirates Homes Real Estate Brokers, was chatting with a group of friends who were taking photos of themselves on their mobile phones in the shisha lounge of the One&Only Royal Mirage on Sunday night.
A police statement confirmed that a Gulf national sitting nearby with his fiancée became concerned some of the group’s photos may contain images of the couple and requested hotel staff to ask them to refrain from taking any more photos. When this request was dismissed, the Arab approached the group’s table and an argument ensued.
The Arab man struck Yadav, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the ground, the statement confirmed.
An ambulance was called and Yadav was rushed to Dubai's Rashid Hospital. He was placed on life support but died on Monday.
The death is currently being treated as unintentional and Major General Khalil Al Mansouri, deputy chief commander of Dubai Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) confirmed the unnamed Gulf national has been arrested.
Yadav (pictured below), who earned a business degree from India’s Maduri Kamarj University, arrived in Dubai and was employed as a driver before we worked his way up the ladder and made his fortune as a real estate broker, heading up the Emirates Homes Real Estate Brokers firm since 2003.
Emirates Homes Real Estate Brokers commented on Facebook, saying Yadav was “a man with a big heart; he’s not a boss around his staff but a real friend.”
The One&Only Royal Mirage hotel have been contacted for comment.
