Hong Kong-based Marco Polo Hotels is to launch a new brand, Niccolo by Marco Polo, which will be a collection of “contemporary urban chic” properties.

It is first new brand for the company since its launch in 1986 and is set to first establish a foothold in China, before going global.

The first Niccolo hotel, with 228 rooms and suites, will open in early 2015 within the newly-opened International Finance Square (IFS) Chengdu in China's Sichuan province. A further three Niccolo hotels will also open in Chongqing, Changsha and Suzhou.

"Late last year, Marco Polo Hotels announced our expansion plans across Asia Pacific. The launch of Niccolo by Marco Polo in Chengdu is an integral part of this growth strategy and evidence of our belief in the continued potential of business and leisure travel across the region,” said Stephen Ng, deputy chairman and managing director of Marco Polo's parent company The Wharf (Holdings) Limited.

The new brand is inspired by pioneer and explorer Niccolo Polo, father of Marco Polo, and will target “experiential travellers with adventures in luxury and urban discovery”.

Its City Insiders concierge service will be on hand to give visitors tips and the hotels will also have retail partnerships exclusively for guests.
