Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah has opened its Japanese restaurant, Umi, which will serve teppanyaki, sushi, sashimi and bubbling sake whilst overlooking the Arabian Gulf.

With 20 years of experience cooking his native cuisine, Japanese chef Kando leads a team of specialist chefs, who will cook beef, chicken and seafood dishes on the open teppanyaki grill. The menu includes Japanese delicacies including Matsutake Chawan, Japanese Honjyou Wagyu Beef and Black Sesame Sponge & Yuzu Chiboust.

The interior has been designed to be modern and inviting, with blackened pillars and chainmail clad walls, complementing the leather furnishings and a floor-to-ceiling chandelier is set within the smaller dining area.

The private dining room is a bamboo-accentuated room with a single modern refectory table and pink seating for 10 guests.

At the bar, the low pale green seating is where guests can sample Umi’s collection of over 80 blends of sake, all of which are displayed on illuminated cube shelving. The extensive range includes sparkling sake, Fukuju Awasaki and the unfiltered and cloudy Sake, Nigori. Alternatively, Japanese themed cocktails and mocktails, such as the Geisha Kiss and Japanese Royal are available. The TWG tea collection includes handpicked teas such as White Spring Tea and Oud Night Tea.

The Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah  opened on 1 August 2013.
