An Emirates Airline employee has been sentenced to three months in jail for stealing passengers' bags.

The National reported that the 43-year old Moroccan employee was sentenced at Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance on Monday. He was also fined AED 848 for his crime.

The accused was hired by Emirates Airline to help solve passengers' luggage problems at the Terminal 3 departures building; and was responsible for helping baggage movers tag luggage that had been left behind, then storing it in the 'found-items' section and informing police.

Instead he was caught out for helping himself to their belongings by persuading passengers who were carrying excess baggage to leave their luggage behind to avoid paying extra fees; and was even caught asking baggage handlers to carry luggage left by passengers to his car.
