Louise Oakley visited Phuket and discovered that this small Thai island has a variety of beach destinations to meet the luxury traveller’s needs.

1 Mai Khao Beach
Located on the northwest coast of Phuket, this 11km beach is best suited to those seeking natural beauty.

This quiet beach is one of the rare, undeveloped destinations in Phuket. It is part of the Sirinat National Park and home to just three luxury hotels: the Renaissance Phuket Resort and Spa, JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Anantara Phuket.

For clients seeking a modern, stylish design that remains in keeping with the natural environment, book a long weekend in one of the Renaissance Phuket’s one bedroom pool villas (pictured). The hotel also features five restaurants, a Quan Spa, Kids World and pool, and three event venues.

Best for: Clients valuing privacy.

2 Bang Tao Bay
This stunning beach offers one of Phuket’s most popular resort destinations, the Laguna Phuket.

For guests seeking a longer stay in Phuket, ATN recommends Laguna Phuket, a luxury complex spanning 1000 acres of tropical parkland along an 8km beach on the island’s west coast.

It offers seven hotels, including Banyan Tree Phuket, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket and Best Western Allamanda Laguna Phuket. The Dusit is famous for its traditional Thai hospitality and design, and it offers a range of accommodation options to suit all budgets, as well as a variety of leisure facilities.

Best for: Mature guests and families

3 Karon Beach
Less hectic than neighbouring Patong this area is targeted at the higher end of the market.

Well-known for its beautiful white sand and close proximity to Phuket’s main attractions, the area offers a variety of independent hotels and international chains such as Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort & Spa and Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket.

Spread over 24 acres, the Mövenpick features tropical gardens, a luxury spa and onsite diving centre. It offers 175 rooms, 159 villas and 30 beachfront two-bedroom butler serviced residences.

Best for: Guests seeking a fun, relaxed trip.
