The InterContinental Al Khobar, in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, has joined forces with Ita’am, Saudi Food Bank, revealed Paul Dunphy, area general manager KSA East and general manager Intercontinental Al Khobar at InterContinental Hotels Group.

Speaking exclusively to Hotelier Middle East, Dunphy said that Ramadan is a time for giving and reflection. “In the past, many hotels did not give any consideration to the over production of food provided the guests were happy. These days our guests are asking us what we are doing with our leftover food during Ramadan so we are very conscious of this in the kitchens when we prepare the food for our Iftar Buffets,” he said.

 Dunphy explained how the Ita’am, Saudi Food Bank, collect leftover food, re-box in a safe and hygienic way, and “offer it to those less fortunate than ourselves”.

He also revealed that IHG has been named recently as position number two as one of the best places to work in Saudi Arabia, by Great Place to Work, “the global authority on workplace culture assessment”. 

Dumphy added: “This indicates how we value our employees; how we understand the importance of a positive work environment which further enhances employee engagement.

“This helps us facilitate the growth of IHG in the region. During Ramadan, we have given utmost consideration to our fasting colleagues, giving them a shortened work hours on their schedules to facilitate rest and resting periods,” he said.
