How Taj Palace Hotel Dubai handles the situation - They the passport and if any employee leaves before 1 year they will threat to ban if visa charges not paid while they keep the passport. And after receiving the all the charges they still impose ban on employees. Among the worst HR's & policies in the region Taj Palace has.

No employer has the right to hold on to staff's passport, whilst in Bahrain I chose to keep my passport in my boss's safe in her office just to make sure it never got lost or stolen however I had access to it whenever I needed, another option for safekeeping is to keep it at your country's consulate and embassy.

@ Confidential Shame on Taj Hotels and Resorts! Their HR Policies are really worst and inside very politics.

Funny thing is that it is actually against the law to withhold the passports of the employees. But hotels still do it and if an employee complains they are simply told that they have no choice. There is nowhere to complain about this. The reason why they hold the passports is so that the employee can not abscond. Dubai Government should impose fines on companies holding the passports of employees. If someone wants to leave they will find a way and in case of an emergency is a huge hassle trying to get the passport back from HR.

It has been declared in Oman that it is illegal to hold employees' passports but my employer is holding all the employees' passport. This property is classified as 5 star but they violate the law.
