Keegan: more Soccer Circus style attractions could be on their way. Keegan: more Soccer Circus style attractions could be on their way.

The Soccer Circus interactive attraction could be applied to other sports, the concept’s creator Kevin Keegan has revealed.

“We have a plan to develop a multi-sports visitor attraction, based around the same technology that we use at Soccer Circus,” the UK football legend told Leisure Manager in an exclusive interview for the magazine’s guest comment piece (see page17).

“The attraction would be fully interactive and present games in an immersive and fully-themed environment, with audio comments from a virtual coach as the visitor becomes the star player needing to score the vital home run or deliver the final pass for a touchdown at the critical part of the game.

“It would be great for people to experience these situations and feel what it’s like to be a real player in a high pressure moment during the game. We are very keen to develop our ideas and turn them into reality as we have done with Soccer Circus.”

He was speaking as the Majid Al Futtaim Leisure group prepares to roll out Keegan’s Soccer Circus concept at Dubai’s Mirdif City Centre.

The attraction, which allows players to test their football skills in a high-tech interactive environment, will cover an area of 2000m² and comprise the Training Academy and PowerPlay.

Training Academy presents a series of football challenges, each one concentrating on different football skills. The games are played individually by each person in a team of up to four players.

PowerPlay is a highly realistic virtual game, played in a stadium-like atmosphere, giving every member of the team the chance to experience what it’s like to play like a pro.

The players receive a pre-match briefing from their coach before taking to the field, using real footballs in a fully automated and exciting game.

Keegan said although all efforts were currently focused on rolling out the Mirdif City Centre attraction, there was no reason why Soccer Circus could not work in other locations in the Middle East.

“Once open, Soccer Circus in Dubai will become our flagship attraction, a showcase for the product and the excitement that it generates,” he said.

“With the strong interest in football across the Middle East I can see more of these attractions being built.”
