Who is most deserving of the Barista of the Year title? Who is most deserving of the Barista of the Year title?

BARISTA OF THE YEAR

Sponsored by Merchant Star International

This highly competitive category required participants to demonstrate some extra-special qualities to make them stand out from the crowd.

Our shortlisted candidates have a thorough knowledge of the blends used and the outlet menu, as well as the ability to build a rapport with customers and form a loyal client base.

The winner has to be a team player, confident in up-selling and working in high-pressure situations, who has shown enthusiasm for undertaking training and developing new skills — as well as being a driving force behind new promotions at the outlet.

This category sees three talented baristas in a run-off for the title:

• Norberto Y, Doha Marriott Hotel

Norberto’s dedication to his role, the standard of his work and the satisfaction of his clientele marked him out as someone who truly enjoys their job.

His dedication to up-selling and generating revenue was also noted in the nomination.

• Hussein Farouq, Costa Coffee Bahrain

Hussein’s achievement at being Bahrain’s national Costs champion saw him compete in the regional finals in Dubai this August, an event he was delighted to be part of.

His dedication to ongoing training also stood out in the submission.

• Raja Muthusamy, Raw Coffee Company

This nomination applauded Raja’s determination to learn about the art of coffee-making, highlighting the dedication and passion he has shown towards learning the whole process, from theory to practice.

His attention to detail while training others also marked Raja out as a cut above your average barista.
