Dubai has recorded a record 1.8 million tourists from India in 2016, according to Dubai Tourism.

"Expectations on tourism growth from India remain high for 2017 with even stronger bilateral ties being forged between the UAE and India," the release said.

International overnight traffic to Dubai has reached 14.9 million, allowing the emirate to cement its ranking as the fourth most visited city in the world.

Highlights of 2016 also include the 20% boost in Chinese visitors, crossing the half-million mark for the first time with 5,40,000 tourists arriving in Dubai and the resurgence of Russian inbound tourism recording a 14% growth in overnight traffic, a market that had been affected by the rouble devaluation in 2014-2015.

Dubai is gearing up to welcome 25 million tourists by 2020, spending billions of dollars in building high-quality infrastructure and tourist destinations – the latest being Dubai Harbour, a waterfront destination that features the MENA region’s largest marina and the Dubai Lighthouse.
