Dubai police have retrieved 45 kilos of gold that was stolen from a visiting African businessman in the reception area of a Deira hotel.
The gold was retrieved during a joint operation by Dubai and Sharjah police, leading to the arrest of a five-member African gang, as reported in Emirates 24/7.
“The African gang of five was arrested and the gold retrieved from the electrical appliances kept in the gang’s house while they were trying to smuggle it out to an African country,” said sources familiar with the case.
According to Dubai Police sources, on December 21, 2012 a businessman from Malawi was at the hotel’s reception desk when a gang attacked him from behind and disappeared with a bag containing the gold.
The victim was in the UAE with two other businessmen who were reported to be carrying a combined total of 210 kilograms of gold.
