Stuart Birkwood has joined Riyadh-based Fawaz Alhokair Group as CEO of its hotels and compounds division, bringing more than 20 years’ hospitality industry experience.


After graduating from Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh in 1991, he joined Hilton as a graduate trainee, and was part of the opening teams at its East Midlands Airport and Coventry hotels.

After three years with Hilton, he joined ITT Sheraton, now part of the Starwood group, where he stayed for 18 years. With them he worked in various destinations, including in Poland, Finland, Belgium and the UK.

Birkwood moved to Riyadh in 2008 as general manager at Sheraton Riyadh, but now makes the move to Fawaz Alhokair, which currently has various projects in the pipeline with Marriott and Starwood.

In the next 24 to 36 months, it is due to open Courtyard by Marriott Olaya in Riyadh, Aloft Riyadh and Aloft Dharran, followed by JW Marriott Salboukh and Four Points by Sheraton Mall of Arabia Jeddah.
