Hyatt has announced it will introduce its North American Hyatt Place brand to the Middle East and India.

Hyatt Place, which is an economy brand, will open by the end of the year in Hampy, in India, followed by one property in Dubai, and another on Reem Island in Abu Dhabi, according to the firm.

Thierry Bertin, vice president of worldwide sales for south west Asia for Hyatt told Hotelier Middle East: “The North American concept is very valid for North America – the food is grab and go, you carry your own luggage, there is no room service. This wouldn’t fly in India – nor the Gulf.”

He added: “We have looked at the definition of the brand to make sure the room product is very similar – the style, the comfort, the space. But with a couple of more facilities – one restaurant, one bar, room service, bellboy – because you cannot conceive of not having a bellboy.”

“The concrete plans we have are one project in Deira and other projects in Abu Dhabi on Reem Island. It’s difficult to say when they will open, because Reem Island is a big project and they both depend on so many things,” Bertin added.

He concluded: “Hyatt place is more simple – in us, we call it select service. But that’s not really the case when it will be here. But it still wont have the same range of facilities you will see in our other brands. It’s less luxurious.”
