Minor Hotel Group has welcomed Robert Kunkler as its new senior vice president of hotel operations, moving from Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts, where he was regional vice president of operations and general manager of Madinat Jumeirah Resort in Dubai.
Kunkler, the winner of 2011’s General Manager of the Year award from Hotelier Middle East for his successful running of the Madinat Jumeirah resort, will move to Bangkok to take up the promotion.
In his new role he will be responsible for the successful operation of all Anantara properties, as well as those in, or joining, the pipline, and the newly launched AVANI brand.
Kunkler said: “With four new Anantara properties joining the 17-strong hotel portfolio this year and an ever-growing future pipeline, plus the recent launch of the company’s AVANI brand, I am very happy to be joining Minor Hotel Group at such a key time in the company’s expansion”.
The German national joined Jumeirah in 1999 as a member of the pre-opening team for the Burj Al Arab, after having already worked in the UK, Singapore, the Philippines, South Africa and the UAE in the hospitality industry, and has since been general manager at three of its hotels.
